ποΈ FULL PAGE β "PANORAMIC VIEWS OF THE CITY OF TORONTO, CANADA" β THREE VIEWS
Three panoramic views of Toronto β published at a significant moment in the city's history, as the Prince of Wales was touring British North America and Toronto was preparing for his visit. Toronto in 1860 was the capital of Canada West (present-day Ontario) and a rapidly growing city of about 45,000 people β its broad streets, handsome public buildings, and busy harbor on Lake Ontario making it one of the most prosperous cities in British North America. Seven years before Canadian Confederation would transform it into the capital of the province of Ontario, Toronto appears here as a proud Victorian colonial city at the height of its Antebellum prosperity. A significant piece of Canadian and Toronto history.

πΏ DOUBLE-PAGE CENTERFOLD β "PUBLIC SQUARE AT CLEVELAND, OHIO WITH THE PERRY STATUE" β WITH MORE ON O.H. PERRY
A double-page centerfold of Cleveland's Public Square β the great central plaza of the Lake Erie port city β featuring vignettes of the Oliver Hazard Perry statue and additional content on Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, the hero of the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812. Perry's famous signal before the battle β "We have met the enemy and they are ours" β is one of the most celebrated dispatches in American military history, and his victory at Lake Erie on September 10, 1813 gave the United States control of the Great Lakes and turned the tide of the War of 1812 in the Northwest. The Perry statue in Cleveland's Public Square honored the War of 1812 hero who had been born in South Kingston, Rhode Island and whose greatest victory had been fought on the waters visible from the same city where his monument stood. A vivid and significant piece of Ohio, Great Lakes, and War of 1812 history.
