π· FULL PAGE β "OUR RECENT VISITORS, THE PRINCE OF WALES AND SUITE β AT BRADY'S GALLERY, NEW YORK"
A full-page illustration of the Prince of Wales and his suite at Mathew Brady's celebrated photography gallery in New York β a primary document of one of the most famous photo sessions of the Victorian era. Mathew Brady β who would go on to document the Civil War in the most comprehensive photographic record in American history β photographed the Prince of Wales during his New York visit, and the session at his Broadway gallery was one of the social highlights of the tour. This Harper's Weekly illustration of the Prince at Brady's is a primary document of both royal history and the history of American photography β connecting the two most celebrated figures of Victorian American visual culture in a single image. A significant piece of American photographic history and Anglo-American royal history.
