ποΈ TWO FULL PAGES β "THE PRINCE OF WALES AT WEST POINT"
Two full-page illustrations of the Prince of Wales at the United States Military Academy at West Point β one of the most symbolically charged stops on his American tour. West Point β the academy that had trained the officers of both the Union and Confederate armies (though the Civil War was still six months away) β received the heir to the British throne with full military honors, the cadets drilling in review before the Prince in one of the most memorable scenes of the tour. The Prince's visit to West Point on the Hudson β the fortress that Benedict Arnold had attempted to betray to the British eighty years before β carried a historical irony that contemporary observers noted with relish. Just one week after the Wide-Awakes had marched in torchlit procession for Lincoln and Hamlin, the Prince of Wales was being reviewed by the cadets who would shortly be fighting the Civil War. A vivid and significant piece of American military and Anglo-American royal history.

π ILLUSTRATION β "GRAND BALL TO THE PRINCE AT THE ACADEMY OF MUSIC, BOSTON"
An illustration of the Grand Ball given for the Prince of Wales at the Boston Academy of Music β the New England counterpart to the celebrated New York ball of the previous week, drawing Boston's finest society to honor the royal visitor. A vivid piece of Victorian American social history and the Prince of Wales's Boston visit.

π± FULL PAGE β "BRITAIN AMERICANIZED" β INCLUDING A POOL TABLE
A humorous full-page illustration of "Britain Americanized" β depicting the Prince of Wales and his British suite being exposed to distinctly American customs and entertainments, including a pool table, during their American tour. The pool table detail is a vivid piece of Gilded Age American gaming culture β billiards and pool were among the most popular entertainments in Antebellum America, and the image of the future King of England at a pool table would have been both comic and charming to American readers. A warm, funny, and very frameable piece of Anglo-American cultural history.
