ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
π FULL PAGE β "OUR AMERICAN TROTTING HORSES" β TWO ILLUSTRATIONS
Two full-page illustrations of American trotting horses β a vivid and displayable piece of one of the most popular sports and betting pastimes in Antebellum America. Harness racing and trotting were the dominant forms of horse sport in mid-19th century America β far more popular than flat racing β and the great trotting horses of the era were celebrated like today's sports stars. The legendary Hambletonian 10, foundation sire of the Standardbred breed, had been foaled just eleven years before this issue in 1849, and his offspring were beginning to transform American harness racing. A vivid and very displayable piece of American horse racing, sporting, and equestrian history.

ποΈ DOUBLE-PAGE CENTERFOLD β "REVIEW OF THE 7TH REGIMENT, N.Y. STATE MILITIA BY GEN. HALL AT CAMP SCOTT, STATEN ISLAND"
A magnificent and displayable double-page centerfold of the 7th New York State Militia reviewed by General Hall at Camp Scott on Staten Island β the annual summer encampment and review of America's most celebrated militia regiment. The 7th Regiment's camp reviews on Staten Island were one of the great military-social spectacles of Antebellum New York, drawing fashionable crowds to watch the elite regiment drill and maneuver with the precision that made them the envy of every militia in the country. Just nine months after this review, the 7th would be among the first regiments to march to Washington's defense at the outbreak of the Civil War. This centerfold β showing the regiment in the full splendor of their gray uniforms and precise formations β is a vivid, significant, and very frameable piece of Civil War precursor military history and New York City history.

Two front-page illustrations of the Chenery stables at Belmont, Massachusetts β the site of the first appearance of bovine pleuropneumonia in the United States, a devastating cattle lung disease that had been introduced from Europe and was threatening American livestock. The outbreak at Chenery's famous Belmont stock farm β one of the premier cattle breeding establishments in America β was a significant agricultural crisis that would eventually lead to the first major federal livestock disease control legislation. A significant piece of American agricultural and veterinary history.
