π FULL PAGE β "THE STEAMSHIP 'ARIEL' IN THE TROUGH OF THE SEA β THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN LUDLOW"
A dramatic full-page illustration of the steamship Ariel caught in the trough of heavy seas β documenting the death of Captain Ludlow in one of the most vivid maritime disaster illustrations published in Harper's Weekly's early years. The "trough of the sea" β the terrifying moment when a ship lies broadside to the waves, rolling dangerously between crests β was one of the most dreaded positions for a Victorian steamship captain, and this illustration captures that drama with full visual power. This exact print is sold separately as a collectible antique engraving (11Γ15 inches) by dealers worldwide, confirming its desirability as a standalone maritime art piece.
ποΈ THREE-QUARTER PAGE β "THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN LUDLOW"
A three-quarter page companion illustration depicting the final moments of Captain Ludlow β a primary document of the human tragedy of Victorian maritime disaster, rendered with the emotional power that made Harper's Weekly's disaster illustrations among the most collected in the run.
π€ SMALL ILLUSTRATION β "THE LATE CAPTAIN LUDLOW, OF THE 'ARIEL'"
A small memorial portrait of Captain Ludlow β the commander whose fate is documented in the two larger illustrations, giving a human face to the maritime tragedy.

π« ARTICLE & ILLUSTRATIONS β "GENERAL JACKSON'S DUEL WITH DICKINSON"
An illustrated article on Andrew Jackson's famous duel with Charles Dickinson on May 30, 1806 β one of the most celebrated and consequential personal combats in American history. Dickinson was considered the finest pistol shot in Tennessee; Jackson allowed him to fire first, took a bullet that lodged permanently near his heart, then slowly raised his pistol and killed Dickinson with a single shot. Jackson carried Dickinson's bullet for the rest of his life. The duel illustrated Jackson's iron will and helped establish the fierce personal reputation that would carry him to the presidency in 1828. A significant piece of Andrew Jackson and American political history.
